I know I'm not the only one who deals with a son and/or husband and their awful colds once or twice a year. Most of us as moms and women get up, pull our 'stuff' together and go about our day because we have no other choice. Men think that they are on their death beds with any kind of illness and expect to be catered to. Don't know about you, but I am just fine raising 3 children, not 4. HA! I come off harsh, but I do care and kind of feel bad. I understand most illnesses you feel at your worst in the morning and at nighttime. My husband is actually very good about pitching in and doing all the work in the evenings if I'm sick. Even my kids (the older 2) can be helpful if I am desperately needing it.

This leads me into trying to find any relief I could to ease the pain of the 'man cold' for him, but also for me! I started to have an interest in essential oils when my youngest was born at 28 weeks. I wanted to fight off and prevent any illness I could in a healthier way. P.S. I still use Lysol when needed, so I'm diversified, LOL. I've used both of the big name oils and have to say that I've become a little more partial to doTERRA. They are the highest quality and purest oils on the market today. You are getting the most for your money as well. So, I started to do a little research and as usual with any recipe I didn't follow any of them I found. I revamp a recipe to my needs or taste no matter what it is.
I first tried this with my 12 year-old son who had the same cold last week. His started to come on Sunday afternoon and then just became worse each day. Tuesday evening I drew him a bath that consisted of essential oils, baking soda and Epsom salt. *recipe below* I made the water as hot as he could stand it (so hot tub hot) and made him soak 30-40 minutes and then take a warm shower immediately following. I noticed results as soon as he came out of the bathroom. He didn't sound as congested and he said he was feeling a little better. His head didn't feel as stuffed up and his entire body felt better. He didn't have the flu (no fever) just was achy and felt miserable. The next morning he woke up and seemed almost 100% better. He however still had a little lag from the drainage the two days before, but it was breaking up and able to get it out.
It's on this very day that my husband had text me saying he woke up with a sore throat and was completely stuffed up. Being the stubborn man he is he continued to down cold meds around the clock hoping for relief with no luck. It progressively got worse and then FINALLY on Saturday evening he asked me to make him one of those cold detox baths because he was desperate and needed some relief. I did the exact same routine as I did for our son except I added Deep Blue oil to his for additional body ache relief and wouldn't you know it, he seemed to have the same results after. Yesterday morning he woke up feeling better and everything seemed to finally be breaking up. I'd say it's worth a try even if it doesn't provide the relief they both experienced, it doesn't hurt to try.
I am not a medical professional and this is not medical advice. I am just offering a healthier alternative to give a try; rather than pumping yourself full of man made cold medications. I plan to get my essential oils diffusing 24/7 going forward to hopefully prevent this from happening again! I'm telling you it's worth it!
